This presentation will highlight the importance of disaster/emergency planning for your pets. Also, there will be discussion on lessons learned from the natural disasters that happened in 2011 - Midwest Floods, Joplin Tornado, & Hurricane Irene. Other topics will include, but are not limited to:

- Why disaster planning is important for you and your pets

- Understanding your rights under the federal PETS ACT of 2006

- Developing effective evacuation plans for your pets

- Assembling pet emergency kits

- What happens if you leave your pet at a temporary animal shelter

- The role of the Central California SPCA during a disaster.

- The Central CA Animal Disaster Team


Naomi E. Flam, CERT Instructor

Naomi is the President of the Central CA Animal Disaster Team and serves on the CCSPCA Board of Directors. She is also a member of the national animal response teams of the Humane Society of the US, Red Rover, Inc., (formerly United Animal Nations), and the American Humane Association.

This past year, she was deployed to the midwest to assist at animal shelters for displaced animals during the midwest floods, the Joplin tornado, and Hurricane Irene. She will discuss these events to help you to prepare your pets for potential evacuation and housing at a temporary animal shelter.


Beth Caffrey, CCSPCA

Beth is the Education Director of the CCSPCA and is in charge of the Education and Volunteer Departments. She is the spokesperson for the CCSPCA so you will see her on the local news advocating for pet adoption. This year, she was the recipient of the 2011 Big Fresno Fair Community Champion Award in the category of Humanitarian to honor her dedication, passion, and volunteerism to the Fresno area community.
