Dr. Janet Young Named Clovis Unified Superintendent | News
A longtime Clovis educator gets the nod to lead Clovis Unified. Dr. Janet Young is the new Superintendent of the district.
Young has spent her entire educational career in Clovis Unified. She started as an elementary school teacher in 1979. Ten years later Dr. Young was elevated to Principal of Fort Washington Elementary.
In 1995 she became an administrator as Director of School and Community Relations. Her most recent position was heading up Human Resources. On Saturday, the school board selected the 32-year veteran educator to lead Clovis Unified. "This district has a strong tradition of core values and high standards and we have an educational team that is committed to continuing that course of excellence," said new Superintendent Dr. Janet Young.
Clovis Unified conducted a statewide search over the past two months. Maurine Taylor was on the review panel. "We are really excited to work with Dr. Young and were really excited about moving forward and taking a look at where we can move the district in the future."
Janet Young replaces David Cash who retired unexpectedly in early May. She plans to vigorously pursue the war on illiteracy for young people. "Give them opportunities that are going to invite them to come to school and find hobbies or activities that's going to make them want to come to school on a daily basis."
Dr. Young will earn 225–thousand dollars as Superintendent for Clovis Unified.
