VA Central California Homeless Veterans Summit June 27

The VA Central California Healthcare System (VACCHCS) will host a Homeless Veterans Summit on Friday, June 27 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The event will take place in the Clovis Veterans Memorial District Auditorium.

The purpose of the summit is to enhance and develop strategies while strengthening community partnerships for Veterans and their families, who are experiencing homelessness. The summit will bring together key stakeholders and community partners with the goal of developing a synchronous working plan for addressing the needs of Veterans who are homeless or at-risk for homelessness residing in the Fresno area as well as other communities served by VACCHCS.

"The VA offers the full spectrum of services for homeless Veterans. From housing and health care to rehabilitation and employment – we are here to support Veterans in living productive and meaningful lives," said Wessel Meyer, Acting Director VACCHCS.”

Cooling Center At Sierra Vista Mall

With summer approaching and weekend temperatures predicted to exceed 100, Sierra Vista Mall has partnered with the City of Clovis to serve residents during periods of extreme heat.  Residents are welcome to stay cool at Sierra Vista Mall Monday through Friday 10am to 9pm, Saturday 10am to 8pm and Sunday 11am to 6pm on any day when the National Weather Service predicts Clovis temperatures to be 100 degrees or greater.  While there, participants can expect a cool environment, and access complimentary water at the customer service booth. Non-service animals are not allowed in the mall. All Clovis residents are reminded to take the following safety precautions during extreme heat:

Slow Down - Strenuous activities should be reduced, eliminated or rescheduled to the coolest time of the day.  Individuals at risk should stay in the coolest available place, not necessarily at home.
