New Petco Opens in Clovis

 

Petco’s grand opening of its new store in Clovis is this weekend -March 2-3, 2013 at 1045 Herndon Ave. The festivities feature all-day pet adoptions, giveaways and discounted services, and a variety of activities to introduce the new store and its team to the community.

 

The new Clovis Petco will offer local pet parents everyday necessities and a wide-variety of high quality food options, including natural, organic and raw food selections. In addition, the store will host numerous pet adoption events throughout the year to help local rescues and shelters find homes for the many animals in need. They will also host monthly Meet the Critters events, which are complimentary interactive educational forums for families such as the annual hit, Reptile Rally.

Science Night at Weldon Elementary

 

Involving parents and guardians in their children’s education in a fun and exciting way, Weldon Elementary School will host a Family Science Night tomorrow night, February 28, 2013, from 5-6:30 p.m. The event will be highly visual, with parents, students and teachers all working together on hands-on science projects and activities.

For Family Science Night, various activity stations based on physical, earth and life sciences will be set up throughout Weldon’s multi-purpose room. Other stations will feature hands-on exhibits for students and parents to explore such making fans, flashlights and racecars. In addition, an outdoor rocketry station will enable families to build and launch their own rockets. Fresno County Parks and Recreation Department’s Mobile Science Lab will be parked outside as well and will feature samples of animal furs, insects and reptiles for families to explore. 

 

Surf and Turf Dinner

 

The Bill and Cora Shipley Surf and Turf dinner is this Saturday night, March 2nd at Wawona Packing 6:30 p.m.- 9:00 p.m

It’s a casual, fun community event that also features a silent auction, raffle prizes, and live music.

Proceeds benefit the Old Town Clovis Promotions Committee and Clovis Senior Center.

Tickets are $50.00 each.

Brandman University will be hosting a job fair on its Hanford campus on March 6th-- specifically for educators. It will go from noon to 4 p.m. at 325 Mall Drive.

School districts with immediate openings will be on hand to review resumes and conduct on-the-spot interviews. Positions being filled include K-12 single and multiple subjects, and special education in multiple schools including Hanford Elementary, Hanford High School, Lemoore Elementary, Coalinga-Huron, and Exeter.

The Clovis- Big Dry Creek Historical Society is once again presenting its annual 1924 First State Bank Robbery Melodrama tomorrow, Saturday, February 23 from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm at the Clovis Museum, 401 Pollasky Ave.

Come see the amateur actors re-enact one of the most famous events in Clovis history. Audience participation is encouraged. 

On February 5, 1925, Clovis First State Bank was robbed by gunpoint by two daring life-long criminals. They made off with $31,000 and started a manhunt that garnered national attention.

The event is free and each visitor may enter a drawing for the $100 reward.  The Museum has a ramp for easy accessibility.
