Help “Fill the Truck” and Spread Holiday Cheer! | Business
Walmart and The Salvation Army are asking for your help to provide new toys and coats to local children.
Stores in Clovis, Dinuba, Fresno, Hanford, Madera, Porterville, Sanger, Selma, Tulare, and Visalia will be holding “Fill The Truck” events from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, December 8th.
Volunteers will be giving shoppers a list of suggested gifts to help fill the Salvation Army Truck and/or collection bins at the store.
Once the donation receptacle is full, The Salvation Army will bring the donations to the local Salvation Army Corps and distribute the gifts to local children in need.
“The Salvation Army is excited to partner with Walmart. Each year, Walmart is there to help us meet demands and provide a special Christmas to families and individuals who may not otherwise have a Christmas to celebrate,” said Captain Dwaine Breazeale, of The Salvation Army.
The collection is expected to provide gifts to thousands of children across the Valley. To give you an idea of the need, 81 percent of Salvation Army programs saw an increase in need from families with children due to the recession in 2011. And, 56 percent of Salvation Army youth programs were operating at or beyond capacity, which includes feeding, education, athletic, artistic and religious programs.
