Help Honor Doc Buchanan | Arts & Culture
About $5,000 is needed to complete the $45,000 Doc Buchanan Project. The Doc Buchanan Project is a Public Art Project honoring Dr. Floyd "Doc" Buchanan which was organized by Leadership Clovis Class of 2007.
The sculpture of Doc Buchanan is life sized and in bronze, created by Sam Pena and cast by a local foundry. Sam Pena is the artist chosen by George H. W. Bush for the ongoing Washington D.C. project known as The Extra Mile.
A celebration of completion called "Rock for Doc" is TONIGHT, Thursday, April 12, at The World Sports Cafe. The event will be a celebration and fundraising for the last few thousand dollars to complete the project.
The party starts at 5:00 PM with an Italian Dinner at 6:30 PM. There will be a cocktail hour, a silent/live auction that will include a Mexican Rivera Cruise, Sailing on SF Bay, game tickets and more. Tickets are $45 per person. Donations of $250 or more receive two complimentary tickets to the party and their name on the permanent plaque to be installed with the sculpture.
Donors will also receive a beautiful video produced by Leadership Clovis in collaboration with CART that includes a History of the City of Clovis and CUSD and the Doc Project. (The video is available to the media if they would like to do a story about the project.)
Anyone wishing to attend or donate contact Betty Goertzen at 559-222-7366 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
The sculpture installation will be completed at Buchanan High School and the dedication will be scheduled in May.
